spk_0:   1:09
I'm good. I'm good. Good to see you again.

spk_1:   1:10
Yeah. How many times will we be seen here? I'm still methods in.

spk_0:   1:14
Still imagine so. Summers from South Korea. Tell us a little bit. Well, for starters, tell ever on how

spk_1:   1:22
way. Yes, I was born and raised in Korean and I was in Korea till my 30. Don't ask my age. And yes, thank you. And Tonto. Thank you. Yes, I studied a unit in Korea. I worked in Korea, but many companies in Korean companies, American companies and I wanted to improve my English. So I went to Australia. Can I study my albums one year?

spk_0:   2:03
Yes. Oh, you went Okay. So do we meet in Korea? Do we? No. No way.

spk_1:   2:13
I think most of two years ago, over the two years ago, we met it. One Spanish class here in mother's. In an outfit. Yeah, one way.

spk_0:   2:28
Weighed more than one class. Yes, it was like it was in the university. Was it called? Yeah, so? Well, basically imagine I came here Long Storey short for me. But I came here. You know by myself. Didn't know anyone, but I went to university to study some Spanish. And and that's where I met. Some are basically so yeah, that was

spk_1:   2:55
my very first Spanish class. I just know. Although there's a Oh, I know. Well, that was all my Spanish.

spk_0:   3:04
That's a line you and you know, do you speak fluent Spanish?

spk_1:   3:07
No. I don't think about trying better than better than before.

spk_0:   3:11
So should we just start with Spanish? All our common stuff,

spk_1:   3:14
like gases. Um, Theo, eyes

spk_0:   3:32
sweet. I barely understand any that I could pick up some of that, but But we're not going toe. Continue the oh so many people you

spk_1:   3:43
get. That's my career.

spk_0:   3:44
Yeah, we'll see How many How many languages do you speak?

spk_1:   3:47
Three e speak Korea, of course. My mother tongue language and I speak English on. Then I'm still proving my Spanish.

spk_0:   3:59
Your Spanish is still very, very good. She's She's being modest.

spk_1:   4:02
So much money for that.

spk_0:   4:04
Yeah, it was expensive. If it was definitely expensive. Good experience Way met a few others as well, Like another guy named Jimmy and Cielo. A teacher. She she's actually So I'm going to do some actually more classes with her. But I haven't done them yet? I'm going to I'm going to do some or online on Skype because obviously I'm not really here. Imagine anymore, but yes. Oh, okay. Let's go back to Well, yeah, but let's get back to you. Were you were saying you were in Korea and you're here to learn English? So you moved to Australia. So how many years ago did you move to Australia? How? How many years ago?

spk_1:   4:51
Before in before Columbia's over. Almost off over 10 4 years ago.

spk_0:   5:00
Four years ago. So you went OK? I didn't know that. So you went from straight from Australia, Teo to manage in

spk_1:   5:07
Australia. And that stopped by Korea to see my family and moved Colombia.

spk_0:   5:14
So four years ago, you moved to Australia, moved to Melbourne? Yes. And did you study at the university that

spk_1:   5:21
I used in Korea before I Moto Australia. I used to work in American company in a and naturally I want Teo improbable my angles more to want it to work in another country. So So Australia had never been there. And also I could work with my student beach, so I moved to just English class. I took a just English class starting, and I want to see what's going on because I never been there before.

spk_0:   5:53
So when you did you your student visa, English visa be able to work, then in Australia?

spk_1:   6:00
Yeah, I think among a lot of angles. Countries, I think I was really is thie. Almost only one. You can work legally with a student, So I thought, you know, not just studying in a classroom. So working there to begin with were all the people like you. That would be really great.

spk_0:   6:20
Yeah. Yeah, that's awesome. So how many hours a week could you work? Like much on the visa? How many hours did they give you to work?

spk_1:   6:27
I think I think 20. I'm not. I'm not sure I know, but I think to any 20 hours per week

spk_0:   6:38
That's pretty good. So that so? That's basically so you're about you're able to g o to Australia, study English and work 20 hours a week, So that could pretty much fund some of your study.

spk_1:   6:51
Yes. I thought that would be a great way to improve my English. Actually, for Korea, there are better options. Like it's called walking all their Beecher but that's I think a maximum like I don't know. They're changing this moment, but at the time and then I applied it. There was sorry, one or storey too. But at the time I already was not qualify. So I decided to apply to with my student visa.

spk_0:   7:19
Okay, Cool. And how did it go? Did you meet some cool friends and cool people in Melbourne?

spk_1:   7:23
Definitely. It's not only about what around people they're like Austria later, literally like international. So they're a lot of I met German friends, friends, friends And of course, there are lot of Koreans Japanese, Chinese, India's there. Police e had the best India fully there from my friends really well and one of things. Actually, I worry about to learn English in Australia because I was really worried about There are terminations, right? S o. I was trying to avoid the this group, but when I read, I met a lot of Colombia's Latinos like who speak Spanish. So I need a in the cholesterol with full of Colombians, Argentinians till any inns eso multicultural. But as a Korean South America is really far away in it. So to me, it's very good Zoric and it's very different. Interesting. Much more than just

spk_0:   8:36
way don't have much culture, Dio Actually, our culture is pretty much our cultures literally like a ll the people coming into our country, you know, besides a couple of squeeze and a couple of snags in the barbecue, that's about everything else comes from from from you guys like anyone else.

spk_1:   9:02
You know? Actually, Australian culture is very mixed culture. All immigrant actually like you to write

spk_0:   9:14
my father. Yeah, but yeah e what it's like So did you do all your studies in Melbourne Or did you Did you go to Sydney to study or Brisbane? Or did you travel? And

spk_1:   9:28
actually my plan was that state the Melbourne and love to see me because I like the CD But Long Sigh get into Melbourne. I love to be Stay there so I decide to stay longer. So then But I visit my friend in Sydney just for vacation Two weeks. But I love that, but I'm still Yes, I still like mobile. So I went back to Babylon and finishing my beach.

spk_0:   9:52
How long did it take you to do studies to learn English?

spk_1:   9:55
English in my course was like Thomas course, but they allowed me Beata Teo. 13 months,

spk_0:   10:01
13 months s.

spk_1:   10:02
So I stayed in one year and one month.

spk_0:   10:05
So did it take you one year and one month to learn English? Or did you learn it within 10 months or

spk_1:   10:10
Well, I just finished my course in temples and later I just work war and had a vacation in with other my friends that I had been in there.

spk_0:   10:22
So you learn English in 10 months? Yes, that's pretty good. Pretty good, eh? So what was your favourite part about Melbourne? Botheryou coffee. Definitely. Really like that, Z, I've heard that before, but, like, Okay, we're sitting here in Colombia. I'm drinking your coffee right now. Colombian. Now, what's the difference between a Colombian coffee bean and the coffee

spk_1:   10:47
and go a long way out? They have a great like Tuffy been for you know that I haven't realised I either. I heard it from my Columbia friends. Who has who holds a sphincter, actually motivate the coffee farm. And they told me the the best coffee, the best quality of coffee in Colombia. They import to other courses.

spk_0:   11:08
Yeah, that's right. It's exported out

spk_1:   11:09
of S O. They have coffee. Best barista.

spk_0:   11:15
Exactly. So the barista eso we've got good barista is we know how to make good coffee. And yet the beans exported from Colombia to Australia. But then the prices in Australia for coffee is ridiculous. You pay for a lot $6 for a lot

spk_1:   11:34
for me because I don't know Hill. Is there anybody in Korea's? Like in Korea? Coffee is super expensive for me. A coffee in Australia is super suit.

spk_0:   11:49
All right, Good

spk_1:   11:50
quality coffee.

spk_0:   11:51
What is that? Why do you think that is? Why is it so expensive in Korea?

spk_1:   11:57
Well, we don't have a nature. We don't have a milk is imported

spk_0:   12:07
from Australia. Probably interesting. Interesting. So Okay, cool. So let me just for the audience. Are you from South Korea or North Korea?

spk_1:   12:20
Living. But thank you for asking. No, actually, I think a lot of ideas is like wondering Yes, whenever we mentioned in Korea. Actually, the current cover month was to be preferred, like South Korea and North Korea. But we meaning like South Korea, because definitely North Korean can get out with their country's Yes, I'm South Korea

spk_0:   12:42
So Kim Jong Il's know your uncle?

spk_1:   12:44
Well, actually, my Korean never Sorry. My career name is Kim Chung on exactly the same name with North Korea Dictator. But you know No, definitely you guys. You know my name. Kiev is one ofthe one of war in Korea. The family name, the common name. And that my name Chung is Vaughn of very common name for girls

spk_0:   13:09
just like South Korea from South Korea. Also. So that's good to clear that up already. Oh, Chinese e o. So Okay, so let's go back to Melbourne here in Melbourne. You love the coffee, the culture coffee on how it's made in all that. You met some cool friends down there? Yes. So what else? What else? Who else did you meet? Was it like did you spend the whole 10 months in Melbourne before he travelled? Or did you study?

spk_1:   13:41
Oh, basically spent a whole month hole. Actually, the whole ear in Melbourne. I used to work and the one of the cafe's called R A B is on the digress street. Which of the CBD Jackley CB dissenter of the CBD? Oh, Melbourne. So that Agatha, all the customers from everywhere. And also Mabel had a lot of fastballs and the Melbourne Cup, the Tommies, then every season. So we never have some the events off the city. I had a lot of customers from everywhere, so I could I could learn how to deal with how to talk to with the All the customers are from different work. And we became friends as well. And I think that was a very good place to know everybody, every culture, without any prejudice.

spk_0:   14:42
It was a good practise

spk_1:   14:44
in English and also at the same time. You have a lot of regular customers, and I there was a chance to get to know the rear. Australia people.

spk_0:   14:57
Awesome. So after Melbourne, where did Ugo?

spk_1:   15:01
Um I actually would Teo Australia way to settle down Karnal. Then I like I said, I met a lot of Latino friends over there, and then one off friends became my boyfriend. Wait turn not Columbia. E should not that Wei had Tio. We have to talk about it because I want to stay here. But actually for him a time when we met his bees, I was almost finishes. So he had to decide. He had to renew we just to stay with me. Or he has to move to go back to his country. Because as a Colombian, it was different position from me

spk_0:   15:56
in

spk_1:   15:56
Korea, circumstances, different circumstances. Like e. I didn't know that before, so yeah, so anyway so we we have to know each other in a very short time. So we did many things. Like

spk_0:   16:11
together. How much? In three months? Three months?

spk_1:   16:15
Guy to be together or not. So we try to live together. We tried to treat together. We tried Teo so and then ended up Okay, we decide to be together. So there's a time I finished my my cultural life and then he already left Australia and he was travelling Thie others parts of South Asia before he went back.

spk_0:   16:42
He left before you left?

spk_1:   16:44
Yeah, he left a first and I stayed to re most more. And then during the Thai, who was travelling other side off the salsa Asia we see he always wanted to do. And then we met in Korea.

spk_0:   16:57
Really? So yes.

spk_1:   16:58
Oh, I After Australia, I will go back to my home. I remember my home and after history, we met in Korea.

spk_0:   17:08
In South Korea? Yes, Off course s E

spk_1:   17:11
go to North Korea. What? I can't.

spk_0:   17:14
Right, OK, interesting. So so did he meet your family and stuff?

spk_1:   17:18
Hey, actually stayed at my place with my parents for two weeks. Yes, was attacked. I I mentioned to them. Well, actually, I didn't mention about him till, like, one months before we met. Because I didn't know that you know what's going on. And my parents, Korean Perez. If I said that there are literally expected I'm going to get married or whatever, Something right away, so I don't want to make them, you know?

spk_0:   17:49
Yeah.

spk_1:   17:49
Hat's up. Panic stations. Yes. Like, trust me Korean parents anyway, but I kind of worry about it, But my girlfriend Colombian. I don't know. I think it's about a liver. Colombia's They're very They're very cute. Cute? They're more there are more. I I'm not really cute dollar off my family, but he they do say something very lovely things. Other people easily. You know, I think my mom loved it. Okay? Although they couldn't speak properly, they couldn't talk properly

spk_0:   18:34
polite, You mean Yeah. Yeah. OK,

spk_1:   18:38
so s So whatever happened We just spent two weeks together, and then my parents saw me like this is a happy with him, and then he doesn't know, Really? E my my father. So my father consider with meet a guy like you can drinking or you can smoke a hey can small He can during properly, really pour something for him. He's very much

spk_0:   19:10
manly, man. Your father,

spk_1:   19:12
Because my my daddy used to be an army.

spk_0:   19:18
So what? We was drinking over there in South Korea.

spk_1:   19:21
Sojo, I'm not sure. Like CareerBuilder Carver is hard to say. What

spk_0:   19:28
is it? More like? Sucky e Think about it before in Australia

spk_1:   19:33
is that it gives a very heavy hangover. E called a career that I gotta be up here.

spk_0:   19:40
Oh, yeah, that's what it reminds me off. I remember we had it once in Australia. We sat there, and there's been a Korean barbecue Me my way. Brother Wei had this big table at all this food. This meat was amazing. And then they kept bringing shots. Even the waiters with drinking with us beer. Yeah, Yeah, we're having a beer as well. Yes, yes, that's right. It was crazy. Like I am taking this shot.

spk_1:   20:08
So he got

spk_0:   20:08
through that it was warm as well. Like next minute, like I'm wasted were all wasted. And it was during the week. It was during the week. So then wear all hung over the next day. Yes. Oh, sorry. He got past. That's good. He would have been used. What's your boyfriend, Danny? Right that way. So anybody

spk_1:   20:38
wants to get a long way, they get interested with the curry. Angers you guys know that this work,

spk_0:   20:45
that's s Oh, yeah. Anyone that's keen on a South Korean go, they've got to make sure they could drink properly.

spk_1:   20:51
Yes. So I talked to my parents. I want Teo. The 1st 1 is I kind of wanted to know South America because I'd never been there, and it does at same time. In Korea is a hard It's difficult to trouble as a woman by myself. So I think it's a good chances to, you know, and then before they my boyfriend. And then he has to show every four off his family and his house and his degree he really ceased to me. Oh,

spk_0:   21:25
really? Your parents wanted Teo Teo.

spk_1:   21:27
I can't still forget about My dad said to fall over his family while your mind is beautiful.

spk_0:   21:35
Oh, really?

spk_1:   21:35
Way so that I could came to care. Medicine. Why, Roy? So this is my first CD over Latino America off Colombia Lot in America.

spk_0:   21:52
So you both came here together then?

spk_1:   21:53
No. He came to medicine first. And then I spend the one most more with my family and friends, and I packed up and arrived in here almost later than him.

spk_0:   22:06
And then he can picture from the airport and yes, on you here. Imagine. Wait.

spk_1:   22:14
Just one luggage. 20 started kilogramme. And I'm still here.

spk_0:   22:19
Still here. How? How long have you been here? Imagine now.

spk_1:   22:23
Oh, is Sabine United's three years this April?

spk_0:   22:29
Imagine just left to go anywhere. Other holidays, of course,

spk_1:   22:36
assumed arrived here he always want. Teo was always one to show me in the car. Donna with the most famous place in Colombia, unesco e Teo was amazing. It's beautiful and it's very touristy off course, and it's a bit expensive, but it's just too half form. Age is too hard to Teo and more on also, I went to Cali. I actually you enter colony Teo work as a Korean teacher their way. How I started teaching Korea and is called centric Korea and the as about what year. So I worked over there over three months, and I liked it. I loved it, the job, but it Cali was to me. It's super hard, and at the same time I don't know. I love the matters that I prefer to be the city medicine, nice weather and then a lot of cafe restaurant. You could just walk around by yourself. It's very safe the time,

spk_0:   23:54
and I get a bit sketchy at times. Yes, it's a pencil. You are my friend was robbed in the day by John Point.

spk_1:   24:05
But when it comes Teo, the NASA Kali is the the place is the place. I was just not interested in dancing salsa, but I learned there because I didn't know what to do about

spk_0:   24:19
it because

spk_1:   24:19
it's too high. It's impossible to go at the time there, but it's made into Lorries are startin Joyce also that the culture and I also into Hardin's a lento

spk_0:   24:31
been around like a fair bit around Colombia, which is good, so you haven't just been stuck in managing for three years s o tell me. Of course E B never 30 I love coming back here every time every time vacuums.

spk_1:   24:49
Well, why do you like so much of this? In what? Let me ask you Because you are actually travelling all around the world literally. Why?

spk_0:   25:00
I think I don't know. It's just so I think when I first came here, I didn't speak any any Any Spanish Didn't know really anything. E I don't know anyone or anything. And I just didn't know Cem Colombians on the Gold Coast and long storey short. It was just like, you know, they said go to Columbia. So I went there for a week, went to manage it for a week back in 2015 came back and I was like, I'm going to move there. So it took me like, nearly two years to save money, and Teo Teo learned how to make money online, and then then I just basically moved over here. But then it's so different to the Gold Coast in Australia. There's no beaches where we are matter, Jeanne. It's like, you know, it's like in a valley a little bit of altitude. It's It's just beautiful green trees everywhere and stuff like that. Not seeing straight doesn't have that. They definitely do. But it's just different to what I'm used to so manage in. I think like I was living in Australia like nearly $5000 a month. I moved over here and I was living here for less than $2000 a month, less than $1500 a month. So it was really cheap. Times are changing. It's getting more and more expensive now. Depends like if you want to live in the main city, it's going to be more expensive. Of course, leave just outside managing. It's going to be a little bit cheaper and you know it's good. It's good quality. There's so many cool restaurants and bars and cafes. The people are beautiful. That goes our beautiful, lithe Colombian girl. We can't deny

spk_1:   26:31
that they're they're beautiful.

spk_0:   26:33
Way cannot definitely cannot deny that, like the the touching culture, like how they know the they very affectionate

spk_1:   26:42
here, called a very guarded I don't wear that,

spk_0:   26:57
but yeah, I mean, like, I learned how to dance by chart on like you know, I love Teo s. I like to dance. I never like to dance, but, you know, at the end of the day, it's just it's just a cool place I like. It's way more relaxed. If you wanted to run on online business, you could run an online business here very easily. Imagine not have the overhead expenses, that crazy amount of expenses that you might have in Sydney, in Australia or New York or any really anywhere else. We could pay a rant and stuff like that. You can sit here in marriage in and just take it easy, and I loved doing that. So managing is still definitely like one of my top cities with my top city in the world. So far, I like how it is a little bit sketchy, little bit dangerous at times, too. I don't know why, but you just you could still be aware yourself. You know, if you're a girl or a guy, you got to be aware what what you wear. You know where you're going, you're out late at night. There's still things that can happen at the end of days. Colombia.

spk_1:   27:53
How many does it come here? It's a bean I think of you women like this's like, third or fourth time.

spk_0:   28:00
Yeah, I've bean here since 2015. I think it's been five times in five years. When I was living here for eight months, I think see living here for eight months or something like a left wing in Canada and came back. I just kept back here. But anyway, still still come about. But but yes. Oh, meta genes. Awesome. Money's question for you is you here in Virginia from South Korea. You know, what do you do to earn money? Like I'm sure people wondering how does summer make money here in managing? Sorry, not career.

spk_1:   28:40
Um, I'll be very honest first after, Ah, Korea, which means, as I'm not an English speaker is really difficult to get a job here, so Well, I tried. They tried to apply to international company in my CV in English because I used to work in American companies so they will be easier. We'll also tried to the company here. Local companies, actually I study fashion, so I tried to get into something that will teach the company. And also the thing is in Colombia, all everything is through the compacts. So try to that way too. But no, no. Never made it. Actually, I oh, debated. You know, I never get any interviews, and I don't know what's going on. Well, later, I heard that some hiring foreigners here is a really difficult for them and especially in Colombia. Well, anyway, although I got the job, my salary will not

spk_0:   29:41
really. It's pretty low.

spk_1:   29:43
Yeah. Anyway, so I got them. I couldn't do it. Well, I thought there was time. I might go back to Korea to make a money and come back here again, but I thought, if I just go back to my my country Then again, I saw there will be more difficult to start. I think if I came back to Colombia than I thought there would be starting from zero again.

spk_0:   30:06
So what did you do? So how do you know? How are you making money?

spk_1:   30:08
Yes. Oh, first So it comes to me. Okay. Whatever happens, I have to definitely improve my Spanish. So I study a lot. And I tried to any ways to improve my Spencer one of the ways. So I got through the language exchange it application So I talked to try to talk to, to make friends as well, Then one of my friends that who I met in application Are you career? Yes, I am, actually. Can you teach Korean to me? Yeah. Za High star

spk_0:   30:43
is Colombian.

spk_1:   30:44
Yeah. Here's Colombia. Yes. OK, well, I didn't mean Tio. Why? We're talking. He found that I used to work in the Central Theatre Korea? No, in Cali. So he worked on. Okay, well, at least we can talk in Korea because of what he told me. He actually tried to a lot. That scholarship a Korea University. Dennis Kohler from Korean couple months. He didn't make it. You make it. So you want to try against me, But he wants to be prepared properly in the interview in Korea. Okay. So I can help you. And then yes. So there how? I started my Korean class and there was a 1 to 1. And we

spk_0:   31:29
know he was paying you. Teo, teach him

spk_1:   31:32
lamentable. He wants to pay me. Maybe he liked my class because I thought that was a really great chance. So I really prepared a lot. I was still remember. I studied 10 hours before Just for one class. Because I saw this is definitely my chance. So, yeah, I think that for tonight till he liked it and paid me more than I expected and how I started. So I tried Teo. I gave it my classes where I used to take the Spanish class. They all fit the university. The good thing about this university is very internationalise it. They always have the intercompany exchanges extended student at the same time. The students over there, the studying management. They have to speak ELISA Storey language to graduate so Korean could be one of them. So I try to put on the flyers on the part of the university. Oh, I saw the university. That's if I get my more students over there. So how to give you the closest in the uni with a student? That house grows up and later Then I got my grew close. Yes.

spk_0:   32:39
How many people in your group close

spk_1:   32:42
in the group class actually give? I don't have my classroom, my own cross room. But there is a Korean cafe. Is Korean. Korean desert off in Laurel is it's called Graffanino. So they used to give you the Korean class for free, but they ended up like it was great. Didn't go well.

spk_0:   33:03
So hammy like how many students do you have now? Learning?

spk_1:   33:06
Thiss Mama have, like six groups, six

spk_0:   33:09
groups of students

spk_1:   33:10
groups and each group has around from town. Teo, 15. So all the around 70 or 80

spk_0:   33:17
that's awesome. So how much they will pay Teo. The next question is

spk_1:   33:23
they e.

spk_0:   33:25
That's again. So that's how you make your money. So that's so That's awesome. So he came here to managing Colombia. You learned Spanish? You weren't making any money? No. Was hiring you because you're a foreigner. But then you came across an opportunity where someone wanted to learn Korean and you took advantage of that opportunity and you ran with it. You credit flows and you made it work. And look at you now. Got teaching 70 students how Teo learn Korean on people still come. But my next question is, why the hell does a Colombian want to learn Korean? Oh,

spk_1:   34:05
yeah. Do you know BTS?

spk_0:   34:09
I don't know. Busy. That's

spk_1:   34:10
why e there's a Korean cape ice cold in Korean punk. Okay, The big issue don't know Korean K pop group.

spk_0:   34:25
The reason why these brothers Colombians are learning Karina's just understand

spk_1:   34:30
they got very interested in K pop and then we the week old. That's very Congress drama. The Korean's offer us. So yeah, way called a Korean Kercher. It's called a Hallyu. Yeah, that's now is conquering. Also conquered Korea. No, with a same time recently, there's a career movies, got a kiss until in Korea and goes to Parasite. They got Oscar goers.

spk_0:   35:04
Really?

spk_1:   35:05
Yeah. So yeah, it's becoming bigger Korean culture. In that sense, I think I'm lucky. Thiss moment. People really dressing Korean. And so they want to learn off course after you get to know the Kercher and they get to know more about the and the Korean languages. Korean food, other stuff. So

spk_0:   35:30
Buddy was meant to be you was meant to be, is meant to be awesome. So that Z, that's pretty pretty cool. I really liked Teo sort of thing

spk_1:   35:41
that says, I really appreciate it. I think I really high. I try to make a lot of airport, but at the same time, without this'll, look, I don't think I can make it this much

spk_0:   35:52
exactly you've got a little army behind you. It's awesome. So, congratulations on that summer.

spk_1:   35:57
Thank you very much.

spk_0:   35:59
Before we wrap it up, I'll ask you one more question. Where you going to go from here? What's your plans? Like, What's your What's your next big goal? What do you want? Oh, do you see yourself for the

spk_1:   36:10
future? I don't know yet, but I'm a lawyer. So my boyfriend actually applied his Spanish passport. So we're kind of waiting Spanish passport so that the next station we wanted Teo Teo Europe starting from Spain.
